Dan Osborn and Vincenzo Perrella are a creative team who have been winning praise for their entertaining and sharply comic work.
They gained widespread attention in 2009 with the online release of their short film This is Perth. Immediately going viral, the satirical clip is to date the most watched Western Australian short film of all time. It was awarded both Best Film and People’s Choice awards at the 23rd WA Screen Awards, and lauded by even the most sober of critics for harnessing the theretofore untapped potential of the ‘internet’ and, in doing so, heralding the dawn of a new epoch in film distribution.
During 2009 and 2010, their short film screenplays were awarded production funding from ScreenWest. It’s Just Gary, a 19-minute satirical comedy headlined the Australian launch of global film fest Future Shorts, was nominated for Best Direction at the 24th WA Screen Awards and has been officially selected for festivals in the US, Canada and the UK. Their 14-minute comedic-drama George Jones and the Giant Squid, funded through the highly competitive Hyperlink scheme, was completed in April 2011, and premiered at the Perth International Film Festival in July.
In 2010/11 they wrote for ABC3′s new comedy series Mal.com. Redefining the sitcom genre for a new generation, Mal.com is a 13 x 15minute series that follows the adventures of three homeless youngsters after they stumble upon television’s biggest secret. The series premieres on ABC3 on the 28th of October 2011.
Currently, Perrella and Osborn are writing and developing projects for film and television, in between making repairs on their steamboat.
